Houk companion request

Please, please, please let us kill or banish the Houk companion ?

His name is Skadge, he is a BH crew member

.

Thank you,

a mercenary tired of trying to get 1000 kills while having the Houk as his active companion

After KotFE Chapter XVI (see spoiler box)

You can do exactly that. Kill, banish, keep, as you see fit. Or maybe just kill or keep.

You guys are kidding or it is for real?? If it is for real, then.. YEEEEEHAAAA ! You made me very very happy right now, I'm going to dance! Thank you thank you thank you! :)
It's for real. The Alliance Alert in question is on Nar Shaddaa. After doing some missions for Rusk you'll have a confrontation with the houk and depending on who you side with you get one of them as a companion. The choices will be obvious.

Poor Skadge! Is there a person in the world who likes his?:D

But he is a good tank and can be useful.

I like Skadge and could never quite understad the fan hate he gets.

Sure, he's a a dumb thug with a surly and insubordinate attitude.,,but that's the point! He wasn't written to be warm and cuddly. I found quite a lot of his dialogue and interaction with the Bounty Hunter to be amusing as well, particularly when the BH had an opportunity to mock Skadge's intelligence without the brute realizing he's being insulted. The interaction between the BH and Skadge was fun and a nice change of pace from most companions, who seem to worship at the feet of the protagonist.

On that note I suspect the latter is responsible for most of the hate Skadge gets. He doesn't constantly tell the player character how amazing they are, unlike most of them. Companion characters who have a similar trait in other Bioware games also tend to be disliked, or at least divisive. Unfortunately a lot of players prefer their companion characters to be fawning.

Skadge also had good voice acting.

My only gripe with Skadge is that he essentially forces his way onto the Bounty Hunter's crew without the BH having an option to refuse, but that flaw is hardly limited to Skadge.

Even in that niche, Tanno Vik was way better-executed. Vik had style, he had a little cleverness, and he had some reason to actually end up on the player's crew instead of some vague "oh, I guess I'll take this alien that wants to kill me". Heck, even Zenith was a better companion-who-doesn't-much-like-you.

Vik had a spot on the squad, keep in mind he's the bomb specialist and one of the best there is, everyone in havoc squad has a reason to be there due to there specialty. He also becomes somewhat attached to you even respects you a little overtime, even handing out credits to you from his scams. The little tidbit of him growing up as a orphan on Nar Shaddaa also made his character feel complete, a sort of closure or explanation to his personality and actions, one we really don't get with skadge.

I like Skadge. I just don't like the hamfisted way he gets on your ship. We tend to revere the class story compared to the expansions, but there was plenty of bad writing in vanilla too.

One thing I wished they'd done with KOTFE was alter which comps you get as main companions versus alliance alerts based on class. Skadge would have been a great resource for Agents, BHs, Smugglers and less usefully, Troopers. Likewise Qyzen would have been useful in the main story for BHs, given he used to be one. Had they done this, the overarching story of defeating arcann/vaylin/valkorian would have remained the same, but how they got there would have changed slightly. JKs and JCs wouldn't have had to go through the motions of tolerating Kaliyo's anarchism for a big chunk of the story, instead that whole chapter would be condensed into an alliance alert so you could kill her on the spot.

As the story could get quite complicated this way, the comp chapters would see the return of multiple comps on each one, so when Jorgan returns, have Rusk and Iresso join him in Havoc - Iresso actually knows Jorgan [and hates him] so it would have been great to see how they interact. This would also partially solve another longstanding complaint that characters with the potential to be killed off don't get any playtime afterwards because of that. In this version, players would be less likely to kill characters that make no sense for their class to interact with - as a JC, what do I care whether a mandalorian doofus or a Sith's slave/romance gets killed by Vaylin? Neither is more appealing than the other from a pub standpoint.

I dislike Skadge for a few reasons, similar to Kaliyo and some others. The biggest is that he just doesn't fit most bounty hunters. Why is my hunter, big on respect and the honor of the hunt, a mandalorian respected by mandalore himself and seen as the next greatest mandalorian... going to take a common criminal who literally introduces himself to her with 'oh, you look pretty. I wonder if you would squeal as well as the other girls here.'

I've started leveling a Jedi Shadow, he was joined by a Trandoshani hunter. That hunter would have fit better than Skadge in the Bounty Hunter's crew. What do you think?

Qyzen might work with a Mando hunter that is big on honor but less so with a scoundrel with a lot of dirty tricks up their sleeve. I also think Qyzen works surprisingly well with the Consular, so I think the writers paired him with the right character. Edited by Aeneas_Falco

You can't expect to get along with all your comps. Torian also bullies his way onto your ship, as does Mako, as does Gault - they all do.

I have trouble feeling sympathy for this point of view. Granted he's rough around the edges, but he's miles better than Broonmark. Even a DS V SW might find it a hard sell to bring that thing on board.

Ideally they could have added an option for us to recruit only some or even none of them. That would potentially screw up player run-throughs, in addition to making it a much quieter ship, and also bungling up class stories - imagine deciding not to recruit Scourge on the JK or khem on the SI -, but it would have provided more player agency.

I'm not questioning Qizen's qualities and abilities, still I would have liked to have a companion with a more pleasant voice if possible.
